At Pearl Boutique Dental Hygiene and Teeth whitening in Vancouver, we understand that the choices to make when it comes to dental care products, can be overwhelming. Do you select a product by colour? What you’ve been using for years? What tastes or looks good? We get it, it can be a lot.

Since oral care is part of your daily routine, our Hygienists have compiled a list of their favourite, and most trusted products. These products can be found in clinic or at your local pharmacy and drug store.

Toothbrushes

When it comes to tooth brushes, hard or soft bristle, electric or manual, whatever the brand they are a dime a dozen. For electric toothbrushes, Philips’ Sonicare Power Toothbrush is top of the line. This Electric Toothbrush has soft bristles, and sonic technology that kills bacteria, and removes up to 2x more plaque.

For manual toothbrushes, it is best to stick with ones that have soft bristles. Harder bristled brushes can scrape away tooth enamel, damage your teeth, cause gum recession, sensitivity and even cavities. For people experiencing gum recession, Curaprox is the softest bristle tooth brush you will find.

Toothpaste

With the number of tooth paste brands on the market, it is hard to know what is right for you. Many of us just stick to brands we are familiar with or ones that offer a result we think we want to achieve. This may not be the best method of shopping as what you ‘want’ from a toothpaste may not be what you ‘need’. Floss

Cleaning in between the teeth, or ‘Interproximal’ cleaning is an important step when caring for your teeth.  Traditional floss is great for straight teeth or teeth with little space in between them. Soft picks by GUM are gentle, disposable and easy to use when you are on the go. Waterpik is water flosser or oral irrigator brand that sprays water to remove food from between your teeth. A water flosser works well for crowded teeth, for use around crowns, bridges, implants and braces and also, for those with dexterity issues.

Mouth Rinses

Not only do mouth rinses help freshen your breath, these products work to combat cavities, gum disease and help with whitening. The Periosmart line by Synergy Organics, is an all-natural mouth rinse, locally created by a Dental Hygienist and comes in the flavours Lavender or Citrus.

Oral Science, a respected brand in the Dental community, has created X-Pur OPTI-Rinse. It helps reverse the tooth decay process at its earliest stage, prevent/reduce plaque and gingivitis and to re-mineralize tooth enamel (which helps against dry mouth).

More commonly, Listerine’s mouth rinse ‘Listerine Healthy White’ which helps with keeping your mouth fresh and your teeth white.
