Fintan Hourihan, chief executive of the IDA, said the organization had written to the Minister for Health Dr James Reilly seeking his support for a proposed new EU directive to regulate the sector.

Under the proposals, products with 0.1% of hydrogen peroxide would be freely available to the public while products with 0.1% to 6% would be first used under the supervision of a dentist and thereafter by prescription.
